She has been vocal about her philanthropic work and has helped raise awareness for many charities in recent months. Mackenzie Helps Out Cancer Patients
On September 24th, Mackenzie helped support Rachel’s Place by hosting a benefit at the Echoplex. This organization is focused on providing comfort and support to people who are touched by cancer, while also offering guidance to their loved ones during this difficult time. The event was called “An Evening with Friends” and it featured Torres, Sam Means, The Breeders’ Tanya Donnelly, Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa, among other artists.
Mackenzie Helps Support Puerto Rico
On October 20th, she participated in the benefit concert for Puerto Rico which was hosted by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alex Lacamoire (who did orchestrations of Hamilton). This event had various fundraisers with specific aims of helping, such as fundraising money to bring clean water to rural villages and helping make new spaces for teachers who lost their classrooms due to hurricane Maria. Various actors such as Ben Platt (Pitch Perfect), Javier Munoz (Hamilton), among others performed that night. She sang a beautiful rendition of “Maple Leaf Rag” by Scott Joplin, who was a Puerto Rican composer.
Mackenzie Continues to Stamp Out Hunger
On November 10th, Torres played an amazing set at the 9th Annual Heaven Gala at the Hollywood Palladium. This event had various famous people there, such as Paul Haggis, Jessica Biel, Lucy Liu, among others. This event raised over $1 million for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, which serves roughly 104 counties in the Los Angeles area. The CEO of CHLA said that “Heaven is an opportunity for us to connect with our supporters and show them first-hand how their generous gifts are making a difference.”
